News and Updates...
7.31.07 As you have probably guessed, we hardly ever play out anymore. We've been keeping ourselves busy with other projects. T. Webb and Rich have been busy on the road with Taylor Made Jazz, Walt with his band Gruvology, Elias running live sound as Reflex Productions, primarily with Strictly Hip, That '80s Hair Band, and The Lance Diamond Show, and Aimee happily staying at home raising the children. But we will get together for special occasions...
We are proud to announce that we will be playing in the area on October 12 for the Joe Lang Benefit. Joe was a devoted father and husband who recently died of brain cancer. He was better known as a baseball coach for many years and also as a bartender at Cole's Restaurant on Elmwood Ave. And personally to Aimee and Elias, he was part of our extended family. After his loss, his children were amazed at how many young lives Joe had touched, and decided to carry on his good name, to build a gymnasium in his honor. So here we are, a benefit in honor of Joe. What makes this even more special is this. Joe's wife has a brother named Bing. Bing left for San Francisco many years ago and in that time he was living the American Dream...had a family, built a successful business, and started his own band. Over the last few years, his band released a cd and has started to create a buzz in the Bay area. Now, after a couple of years worth of attempts, we are proud to finally be able to bring in for the the first time to Buffalo, NY... Bing and The Bingtones. This is a 16 piece band modeled after bands like Chicago, Tower of Power, Boz Scaggs. They have a great groove!!! We are very excited to feature them as the main act at Joe Lang's Benefit!!! We urge all of our fans to come out and support a wonderful cause and be treated to some of the best new talent to come through these parts!!! And of course, your favorite Greaties from the Eighties!!! We'll have more info for you as it starts to come together!!!
1.22.07 Wow, almost a year without an update...sorry for the absence, we really missed you and we hope you have not forgotten us either. We're planning a comeback to the scene with a couple of different players, a new hunger (like the wolf???), and more of the '80s you want to hear!!! It has not been an easy road for us, but we feel this incarnation will be a special one. We've always felt strongly about the spirit of '80s music and we also feel that if done the right way, there will be no reason to hide your guilty pleasures...we will see you again real soon!!!
3.27.06 Hello everyone. Happy spring!! We are proud to announce our new association with The Music Agency operated by Frank Michaels. We are looking forward to having a great working relationship with Frank and The Music Agency. Our schedule should be filling up for the spring and summer very soon, so keep an eye on that calendar, the '80s aren't dead yet, they're very much alive and well and will be performing live in a club near you!!! Speaking of proud to announce, Walter and his lovely wife are proud to announce the birth of their first child this past Saturday. Congratulations to you both. Walt, welcome to the brotherhood of dads!!! See you all at our 4th anniversary party in a few weeks!!!
1.5.06 Happy new year everyone. We ended a tumultuous 2005 on the right note. Thanks to Club Evolution and That '80s Hair Band, we were able to reestablish ourselves back on the scene. And a big thank you to all of you who came out to see the band through December, and we hope to have a long lasting relationship with all of you. We really appreciate you being there to jump start us!!!! Now, after our conditioning assignment has completed, we start to once again fly solo starting next week on the 13th and a couple of shows have been added as well. So keep an eye on the schedule as it will start filling up soon. See you at the shows!!!
12.6.05 We are happy to announce that we will continue our 10pm set at the New Rock and Roll Heaven/Evolution Concert Club. You can find us there every Friday though the month of December and possibly though January 2006. We will be opening the weekly Metal Mayhem Show featuring That '80s Hair Band. It is a tremendous opportunity for both us and the club alike. What this does for us is give us an opportunity to reintroduce ourselves to club goers and reestablish our fan base. For those of you who have moved on, well, we're back and you're welcome back to the party too!!! You'll know where to find us for the next couple of months and we are looking at February to start taking the show to different venues again. This is the best news we have had in a long time and feel he best is still to come. We're ready to deliver a better all around show, it'll sound better, it will be funkier, it will be a more exciting party and it will still be all '80s!
11.30.05 Sorry for the delay in updates. There were just a couple of shows this past year, both private parties. Thanks to Greg Tobin from Roar 84 for filling in on the keys, and Brian Beaudry from White Chocolate for filling in on the other show. We are very pleased to announce the newest member of the band. Walter Kemp is our new keys/synth guy, and I am sure you all will like him. Bio and pics coming soon. Our first show together will be this Friday December 2 at the New Rock and Roll Heaven inside Evolution. It is a 1 set show, followed by Metal Mayhem featuring That '80s Hair Band. Show starts at 10:30pm. We thank you all for your patience and hope you haven't forgotten about us. It's great to be back and we hope to see you all there again!!!
1.26.05 Hello people, some recent developments to pass along here...Lenny Revel and the group have agreed to mutually part ways. He is going to devote his energies fully to his original career, so friend, it's been fun, go to NYC and turn heads...we'll be fine without you. Thanks for the laughs you always provided us from downtown, to Niagara to Dunkirk to Maryland. Do Baby Got Back at your next open mic for us!!! As for the rest of you, we'll keep you posted on where we're going personnel wise, there just might be a serious surprise for you...you never know!!! March is still our return, look for us!
1.20.05 Hi again friends. Just keeping you abreast of what's been going on. We are revamping our entire set list with the exception of a few favorites. A sneak peek, a slice of, insider info, whatever you want to call it, here's a bit of what we have in store: We are adding an '80s r&b set which should definitely have the dance floor shaking!! Some featured artists include Bobby Brown, The Mary Jane Girls, Cameo, Sheila E, Pebbles and not your usual tunes by Prince and Michael Jackson. Also some more new wave and pop stuff too by ABC, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Dead or Alive, more Madonna, more Duran Duran, more George Michael and we'll be bringing back some old faves by Culture Club and Sade. There may be a couple of surprises too!!! We're all very excited about the new additions and are very eager to get back out hitting the stage once again! Don't lose faith in us, friends, we are very much alive and we're targeting March for a return...see you then!!!
11.23.04 Hello friends and here's a quick update. The Buffalo Music Awards came and went and we came away empty handed again...for the third year in a row. But it was a great party anyway. Unfortunately, the camera stayed in the pocket as alcohol consumption was in full gear...aaargh!! Too many of you fellow musicians were there to mention all of you, so i won't mention any of you...you know who you are! Great to see you all!!! Some new pictures were went up today in the gallery section so do see, and do enjoy...have a great Thanksgiving!!!
11.1.04 Hi all, and sorry about
the lack of updates, but it was time again for a nasty virus to pay a most
unwelcome visit. But not to worry, we took our cyber antibiotics prescribed by
Dr. Charles and we're back online! To give you all an update on what is
gong on, Tim and Rich are currently performing with Nikki Hicks and the
Soul Music Souljas and Lenny is performing with original modern rock band Any
December. So we are currently taking a break to allow these projects to
gain some steam. But don't worry, we'll be back after Thanksgiving with a
new attitude and a fresh set list . Now, to what has happened:
We are once again nominated for the 2004 Buffalo Music Awards for best dance
band. Hey, let's dance, we can dance if we want to, dancing with
myself...also congratulations to Rich and Tim for their nominations for top r&b
bassist and drummer categories for their work with Nikki Hicks. They're
definitely the baddest rhythm section in town!!! On October 16, we
performed at the Female Musicians Fighting Breast Cancer Benefit at Evolution.
It was a fun evening for a great cause. See the picture page for the full
story and pictures. And September 17, we enjoyed our first road trip to
the D.C. area and performed at the University of Maryland. We have a
terrific recording from this show and we'll be posting clips up on the MP3 page
now that we're up and running again!!! We'll leave you with the words of
the Simple Minds "...don't you, forget about me..." we'll see you all real
soon!!!
6.29.04 Hi everyone...we regret to inform you that this Friday's performance (7.2.04) at D'arcy McGee's has been cancelled as radio promotions at both the D.M.'s patio and the Sky Bar upstairs are put on hiatus for the holiday weekend. We will keep you posted on a rescheduled date real soon!!!
6.24.04 We hope everyone is enjoying our little facelift. Our site is not where we would like it to be yet, but we feel it is a big improvement over what we had for the past year or so...We do have updated video and MP3 clips which we would like to have posted up soon. It will give our old faithful and new visitors a much better representation of us today (I just need to get a hold of my computer guy so he can help me with it because I don't know how to do it!!!). In other news, Tim was preparing to relocate out of state, so we auditioned a couple of drummers, but Tim has stayed, so we retain the services of 'Dr. Rhythm' (my sincerest apologies to those whom I've not communicated to regarding this issue...you know who you are...). Anyway, the summer season is in high gear and we have some great shows coming up, so see you there!!!
4.12.04 Hello, friends. We would like to apologize for not having pictures up from the last few shows sooner, but they are now up and ready to dissect!!! Also, real soon, we'll have some newer mp3 clips available of a number of tunes we perform. They will be ready just as soon as we contact the computer doctor since we are really great at basic computing skills, but beyond that, forget it!!! Thanks to those who joined us at our 2nd anniversary show. We have taken leaps and bounds from where we started out, so thanks to you for constantly supporting us, we are able to become better and tighter than our original incarnation and we hope you are enjoying the benefits of this. This third year promises to be more exciting than the previous two, so get ready Western New York, the '80s are back!!!
11.21.03 Well, once again, we earned nominations in the Buffalo Music Awards, and once again, we came up empty. But not to worry, the winners were most certainly worthy of their distinction. Hit 'n Run for best pop/rock band, Boogie Monsters for best dance band, and Lana from Black Widow for best female vocalist. We also had the esteemed pleasure to perform at this year's BMA's as a last minute fill in. A big thank you to Rick Falkowski, Dave Koester and Nightlife for giving us the opportunity. Everyone seemed to have a great time and it is always a pleasure to see the old music pals we don't always get to see!!! I guess we'll have to try again next year!!!
9.16.03 Hello friends...We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer this year, because we did, and now, on to fall!!! And there is a temporary change. Tim Webb will be performing with a play in Williamsville (as a musician, i don't know how well he can act...) for the next 6 weeks. He will return to the band in November. In his place will be our old reliable friend, Dan Slaiman from The Poor Boys (you all remember him, right) starting this weekend. Also extra thanks to Labatt Blue who have been sponsoring us at our soon to be home away from home at Walleye Willie's in Dunkirk. Lots of great giveaways including hammocks and coolers along with t-shirts and caps, etc...We are hoping to work out a deal to have the fun and prizes extended to our Buffalo based shows too, stay tuned!!! See you all this weekend as we say goodbye to summer!!!
7.28.03 We want to thank all our new friends we've made recently in Dunkirk, and around the Buffalo area. It is a pleasure to see familiar faces again and again...keep 'em coming!!! Also, Buffalo Barfly was out at one of our shows at Club Miami a couple of weekends ago...you can check out the pics at www.buffalobarfly.com buzz 114!!! Also a big thanks to Naomi Langworthy for filling in on the drums this weekend at Club Paradise, solid as ever!!! We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces again in the 2nd half of the summer season!!! See you soon!
5.18.03 Fun show last night...check out the pics. Next Friday we will be at the Ice Palace. We stopped in this past Friday and they definitely did a nice job with the place. Lots of neat glass block illuminated by lights. We had to see our good friends Black Widow open up this joint. Michael Hund (resident guitar god), Lana, Bobby and the rest put on a killer show and got us excited about playing there Friday!!! So make sure you're there!!! On another note, the show scheduled for the Sphere Entertainment Complex has been cancelled. Mr. Marcella decided to go with a dj instead of bands on weekends. (don't worry, they still have bands in the main room). We are working on getting a replacement show for Saturday. Check the gigs section for any newly scheduled shows coming up...C-ya!!!
5.12.03 The band would like to officially welcome Lenny Revel to the band. Lenny brings terrific piano playing skills to the band and has some very witty twists to some old piano standards. At the same time are saying goodbye to Will Holton on the tenor sax. Will is an extremely talented sax player and he will certainly bring excitement to his future musical endeavors. Good luck Will. At this time, we are not looking to fill the sax position. And oh, by the way, Ida from Buffalo Rock Review stopped in to our show last week (5.3) and gave us a rather favorable review, so thank you Ida for the nice words. It can be viewed at www.brrtv.com ...Dan Slaiman has been filling in nicely for Tim, but don't worry, Tim fans, Tim will be back this weekend at the Stage Door, formerly Desiderio's Downtown...see you there!!!
4.22.03 Hello...hello again...we are excited about our second year and are adding more and more classic '80s tunes to the mix...As stated previously Brian's official last show was this past Saturday at Pearl street. Thanks for bailing us out right from the start. We won't forget that. We're all sorry to see you go, our friend, but we wish you all the best. But don't worry, friends, you may see him every now and then filling in. Nate, well, we couldn't get him to the show for his farewell either...he was away for Easter. At least he is a good Christian boy!! So he is not officially done yet! We have been rehearsing with Lenny F****k (sorry people, I can't remember his last name) on keys, and official word is coming soon...Next weekend, we tap into the past a bit and bring back Dan Slaiman to fill in on drums at the Bottom Line. Remember him, from the Purple Moose??? He plays with the Poor Boys, but he will be rich this night, and you can be too by showing up this night...rich with memories from a decade gone by...see you there!!!
3.9.03 We had a fun show last night over at Pearl Street. It was a classic shake the rust off type of show!!! We were off the entire month of February, for no apparent reason, it just worked out that way. To keep everyone abreast on our situation, there are going to be a couple of changes. Both Nate and Brian are going to leave the band. Nate is going to focus on his church group as they have high ambitions including recording, touring and a dvd. Brian is going to give his full attention to White Chocolate, as the inevitable was bound to happen. Both are extraordinary musicians and excellent team players and we will surely miss our brothers. Richii Valentino who has filled in on both bass and keys is going to be the permanent replacement on bass, now the search is on for a keyboard player (sound familiar???). On a side note, Rory O'Shea's, scheduled for Mar. 22 has been postponed due to a travel scheduling conflict, but it will be rescheduled...Our anniversary show is coming up and Brian will be joining us that evening and we hope to wrestle Nate for one more show...it is only fitting that these two play this show as it is a special show for us and it can be a bit more special by making it a farewell show for our two mates, so look for them there, but in the mean time, we continue to look forward and continue to rev up the engine and give '80s pop fans everywhere what they want!!! See you soon!
2.1.03 We hope everyone is enjoying the new format in the gallery. It should be easier to download the page this way...It's a slow time for us right now, so we are adding some new tunes to the show...Last night at Holiday's, we unveiled 'Enjoy the Silence' by Depeche Mode, and 'Looking for a New Love' by Jody Watley, they seemed to go over well, just a little loose on our part, but nonetheless fun to play!!! Many people ask us about certain songs that we don't do, and we are slowly but surely making an effort to adding more of what you want to hear!!! So keep 'em coming!!! A heads up on upcoming tunes are 'I Ran" by A Flock of Seagulls, 'Don't You Want Me' by Human League, and 'Sunglasses at Night' by Corey Hart...look for them at our next show!!! We will also be adding new video clips to replace the existing ones. With a slightly different line up, we want it to be the best representation of who we are currently. Look for it soon...Also, a live webcast is in the works of an upcoming show...we will keep you posted on a date, venue, and everything else...
12.29.02 We finish up 2002 with some cool performances, the 27th at Shores Waterfront which will go down in history as the kidney stone show. Then last night at Quincy Street due to some crazy scheduling quirks, we had both Richii and Brian on keys...someone suggested to us that '80s bands should have 2 keyboard players and for one night we did and it sounded incredible!!! These two played off each other so well, it was like a wall of sound! We are definitely going to do that again soon..it was a lot of fun...Sean from Quincy Street did a terrific job on the sound board...thanks Sean and thanks to Doug from QS for having us...thank you Melissa (again) for the photos and also thank you Charlie for the photos from Shores...these should be posted in the gallery early this week!!! And thank you to all of you who supported us in 2002, our first year of existence, we're looking forward to an even more exciting 2003... in the words of Howard Jones, "...things can only get better..." ...have a safe and prosperous new year!!!
12.8.02 We have always had 'guest' players for one reason or another, and of course we are in the midst of yet another guest player. Richii Valentino has been filling in with the band these past couple of shows, last week he played bass at Desiderio's and last night at the (soon to be Clarion) Best Western Inn on the River, he played keys. What can we say about him. He is just a terrific musician!!! and he sings too!! He sang Purple Rain like nobody's business...I thought the guy was preaching...then he played the drums on one tune as well...we had some local patrons come up and sing Ziggy Stardust with us, nice job boys!!! Aimee even played the skins on a tune as well!!! It was a fun evening...You can see Richii one more time this coming Saturday at Tony Rome's...don't miss it!
11.15.02 Last night was The Buffalo Music Awards ceremony and unfortunately, we did not bring home any hardware, but it was a pleasure to be nominated and we will continue to deliver the goods in the most professional manner show after show!! We have definitely come a long way since our first show in April and we truly appreciate all the support we received from our fellow musicians last night. And a big thank you to those of you who voted for us. It will pay off in the end!!! Congratulations to Cohencide (best new group) as well as the rest of the winners!!! It certainly was a fun evening...look for pics from the show in the gallery section early next week...Tim is filling in quite nicely on drums. The timing is on, and his playing is simply explosive. He received rave reviews from the audience at Desiderio's Downtown and The Bottom Line the past couple of weeks!!! That's our guy on the skins!!! Check us out at our upcoming shows and party with us!!! See you all soon!!!
10.20.02 Naomi played her last show with us last night at Tony Rome's, so thanks for your hard work show after show. And we are proud to announce to the starting lineup, Tim Webb. He is a fabulous drummer who, if you were one of the members of the audience at the Bay City Rollers show you saw it, displayed his skills with us at the one set teaser opening for BCR at the Backstage Pub. He also joined us for a jam at the Quincy Street Pub open mike last Thursday with Jim Wynne filling in on keys. His first official show with us is this Saturday at Whisky Dick's, formerly Backstage West and Golden Nugget. We are all very excited about having Tim on board. But don't take my word on it, come see for yourself...bio coming soon!!!
10.9.02 Effective immediately,
Naomi Langworthy will no longer be with the band. She chose to pursue
other interests and we all wish her the best. Primarily as a fill in,
Naomi has performed about 20 shows with us and has been with us for just about
the entire existence of The Reflex. She has tremendous feel for the music
and her drumming has a big presence. This is a very amicable split.
On a personal note to Naomi, you have given us life as a band
and although you were 'just' a fill in, no one ever doubted your dedication or
viewed you as 'just' a fill in. You were a part of this family all along
and the more we played together, the more it was confirmed. We hope we
made you feel like it. We owe you a debt of gratitude and wish you much
success in your endeavors. Thank you and as always, nice job on the skins
(with our thumbs up)!!! The Reflex
We will be introducing a new drummer very shortly! Stay tuned...
9.12.02 Due to scheduling conflicts, we regretfully have to cancel the September 28 show at the Middleport Inn. Our sincere apologies to the bar for having to do this on this night, but we promise to be there again real soon and in full force!!!
9.11.02 Let's give thanks to
the brave men, women and dogs, who gave their lives to ambush, to rescue, and to
recovery, and thank you to those who lived to tell. You are proof to the
world that this was our finest hour!
On a lighter note, thank you to all who came out to see us this summer. We
played at about a half dozen outdoor shows and nothing but sunshine!!!
Thanks to those who partied with us at D'Arcy McGee's this past Saturday and we
look forward to partying with all of you this Friday at McMonkee'z for happy
hour!!!
8.19.02 We took about a month off and some of us gigged around with other projects, some vacationed, while others simply enjoyed the waves and the heat...but we're back and ready to go!!! Last Friday, we shook off the rust at the Alps in Niagara Falls, and it felt good to play again!!! Then Saturday at the Middleport Inn in Middleport...a bit of a hike, but well worth the trip. Thank you Renee and patrons for making us feel welcome...we look forward to playing there again on September 28...Our next show is coming up next Saturday at the South Shore...and don't forget Peter Frampton this Sunday at the harbor!!!
7.14.02 We just ended a string of shows from the Conservation Club to D'Arcy McGee's to Mickey Rats and ending at the South Shore Beach Club. All shows were all fun times for all and apparently everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Naomi is back in the saddle and didn't miss a beat. Hope everyone is enjoying the new pics in the gallery. Our site grows as we grow and thank you to all who continue to support us and help us grow. We'll see you at the next function!!
6.30.02 Our little soap opera never ends does it...last night at the Purple Moose we had guest drummer Dan (you know, I forgot to ask him his last name) from the Poor Boys on the drums. Naomi is nursing an injured wrist and will be out for an undetermined amount of time. So a fill in for the fill in...anyways not bad for a moment's notice. Dan will be joining us for a couple other shows coming up this month. And by the way, check us out at www.buffalobarfly.com buzz 59 for pics from our show at the Backstage Pub party after the square featuring Airborne Eddy of Off Beat Cinema fame representing the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival. See you all at the next time travel!!!
6.16.02 We have made a change in the band's line up...Jonathan Briandi will no longer be with us, he is planning to go away to study in Florida, so good luck friend and we shall see you again soon!!! In his place on the sax is Will Holton, who played his first show with us this past Friday at T-Birds and his playing was remarkable. Charlie "Bear" on the drums will not be joining us due to his busy schedule so we carry on with Naomi, reliable as ever...Check us out this week coming up as we do 2 shows on Chippewa...See you there!!!
5.25.02 We apologize for the delay in updating the website, but there was this nasty virus that put this computer down for a while, but it is back!!! Another apology to all of you and to Mr. Desiderio for having to cancel this evening's show at Desiderio's Downtown. Not to worry, we will be back and in full gear for the rest of our scheduled shows and hope to be able to play at the downtown venue real soon!!! We are still searching for a keyboard player. Brian is still doing shows with us and will continue to until we have a permanent replacement. Big kudos to Naomi who has done 3 shows with us, and it appears as if we have the drum situation settled with a fabulous drummer who goes by the moniker 'Bear'...stay tuned for more info on Bear!!! Thank you Naomi for your help, it was immensely appreciated and look forward to working with you again if the need arises!!! The video clips and new photos should be up and running this week so keep checking and we'll see you at the next show!!!
4.28.02 John Misso has decided to leave the band to pursue an original project. We wish him the best. So in relief, (once again) was Naomi Langworthy. She and Brian, both from White Chocolate are official honorary members of The Reflex as she stepped in on a pinch and performed admirably last night at T-Birds. It allowed us to play as advertised and not have to cancel the show. Big thanks to our friends from White Chocolate!!! Auditions are being held for a replacement drummer this week, and we are still in search for a new keyboard player. They will both join us again for our show at The Brass Rail, and we will have a new drummer starting on our show the 25th of May at Desiderio's. Once again, any available keyboardists interested in auditioning, please contact the band...see you at the next show!!!
4.14.02 We completed our first show at the Backstage West with the help of the band White Chocolate who graciously loaned their keyboardist Brian Beaudry to us and filled in quite nicely. The crowd seemed a bit unsure of what to expect from the new band, but instantly recognized their favorite hits from the 80's which made for a fun evening. The show was limited to 2 longer sets to offset the preparation time allotted to Brian. He crammed 26 songs into a little over a week and showed tremendous dedication to his instrument and the band in that time, a true professional. He will once again be joining us on May 11 at the Brass Rail, where the show is promised to be longer, tighter and energetic. After that we hope to have a permanent replacement on keys and continue what we started!!!!
4.3.02 As of 4.3.02 Gemini a.k.a. Derrick McCoy has officially resigned as keyboardist from the band due to personal family matters that need to be tended to. As a result an immediate vacancy has been created and the band is currently searching for a new keyboardist to fill the part. Any interested parties can contact the band through the contact page a.s.a.p. There are no shows being cancelled as a result. We all fully understand and respect Derrick's decision and wish him and his family all the best.
